Trainer Assessment Tracks

Initial Assessment

Prior to attending an initial trainer programme, prospective trainers meet remotely with one of our support team to identify any concerns or additional support needs to enable them to successfully (and safely) complete the training. This can include the planning of bespoke materials for visual issues; discussion around any physical concerns or general reassurance.

The expectations of the programme are outlined, including structure of the assessments and the need for self-directed learning in the evenings. Access to trainer accounts is provided to upload any evidence required (link to RRN Trainer Specification) and to access assessment feedback.

During Training

Three areas are assessed during training, using pre-specified criterion designed to demonstrate when learning outcomes are achieved. Assessment data is analysed by the NAPPI Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) team, making assessments fair, valid and reliable.

  • Attitude (Holistic assessment)
  • Psychological (Micro-teach assessment)
  • Physical (Micro-teach assessment)

Quality Assurance (QA)

The Quality Assurance team is made up of the NAPPI Lead IQA (or representative); Director of Education (or representative); and Course Co-ordinator. Assessment decisions are based on the data provided by assessors, resulting in participants being placed on a “Track” for each assessment area.

A trainer on a Green Track will not be informed before they leave the training room, but can be confident that they will be informed if there are any significant concerns.

Short-term action.

  • Confirmation of their “track” status will be emailed to them and their supervisor within two working days. A comprehensive report will be available later within both the Trainer and Organisation Account (for supervisor’s access)
  • Support with developing outlines, accessing workbooks and registering courses
  • Invitation to CPD events e.g. submitting training courses

On-going journey.

  • New trainers, follow-up review at around 3 months
  • All trainers, review at around 9 months
  • Recertification at 12 months

A trainer on an Amber Track, will be informed BEFORE they leave the training room. An Amber Track means there are restrictions, and we need to talk BEFORE training can be delivered.

Short-term action.

  • Trainer verbally informed before leaving the course
  • Confirmation of their “track” status emailed to them and their supervisor after the course. A comprehensive report will later be available within both the Trainer and Organisation Account (for supervisor’s access)
  • Remote support provided within two weeks at no additional charge (unless due to non-attendance or heath issues)
  • Outcome of remote support is shared with trainer and supervisor e.g. move onto a Green Track, or remain on an Amber Track with additional support
  • Once on a Green Track support available with developing outlines, accessing workbooks and registering courses
  • Invitation to CPD events e.g. submitting training courses

Longer-term.

  • New trainers, follow-up review at around 3 months
  • All trainers, review at around 9 months
  • Recertification at 12 months

A trainer on a Red Track will be informed BEFORE they leave the training room of concern regarding safety or lack of educational outcomes. They will need in-person coaching and reassessment BEFORE they can deliver training. This support will usually be actioned within four weeks at no additional charge (unless due to non-attendance or heath related issues).

A trainer on a Green Track for Attitude and Psychological assessments, but on an Amber Track or Red Track for Physical skills, can still deliver psychological skills. A trainer cannot move directly from a Red Track onto a Green Track.

Short-term action.

  • Trainer verbally informed before leaving the course
  • Confirmation of their “track” status emailed to them and their supervisor. A comprehensive report will later be available within both the Trainer and Organisation Account (for supervisor’s access)
  • An action plan developed, including an in-person meeting offered within four weeks

  • Follow-up as determined by the action plan
  • Quality Assurance review at around 9-months
  • Recertification at 12 months

Pre-Recertification Review

New trainers have a 3 month review and all trainers have a nine-month review.

  • Progress since last review
  • Review of how they are feeling as a first year or seasoned trainer
  • Identify challenges and achievements
  • Identify needs for recertification
  • Trainer account check: contract; trainer specification; submissions etc.
