Sexual Health Awareness

Sexual Health Awareness – Trainer Programme

The aim of this training is to increase awareness of the sexual health needs of vulnerable individuals with Autism and/or Learning Disabilities.

The Joint Committee on Human Rights states that people with a learning disability are vulnerable to infringement of their right to sexual expression. Some individuals have come to accept this infringement as part of their lives, depriving them of their basic human right to companionship within a loving, romantic and sexual relationship.

Barriers are often the result of the attitudes and perceptions of well-meaning family members and frontline support workers, whilst aiming to protect the vulnerable person, they maybe hampered by their embarrassment or cultural beliefs.

This stand-alone course has strong links to the NAPPI Positive Behaviour Support Model and will help to ensure that people are supported within their sexual needs and will assist participants to understand their responsibilities in relation to balancing rights and safeguarding Service Users.

This is a three-hour workshop suitable for those who support individuals with learning disabilities or autism, delivered remotely via Zoom. Purchase an annual licence and deliver this course as an in-house trainer (see below).

“From this training we are going to be able to develop a sexualised behaviour plan for one of our service users. We have learnt about positive reinforcement with sexual relationships and how a sexual relationship can benefit an individual.”
